12-10-06 There comes a time in a creator's life where he is up against carbon copies of their own creations. However, there are times where characters are invented before others can even get published... such as this.. I want to make it official, that there is indeed a videogame character that shares the same similarities as Raide. Mostly hair and facial features, but I found that this oddity shouldn't go unnoticed. It all started one Sunday (see date above) morning where I watched Cinematech on G4, and there was a clip of a game called Kingdom of Paradise for the PSP. The protagonist, Shinbu, was shown as a close-up and my jaw just dropped as I immediately saw the obvious resemblance.
Here is the first image, as you see the mugshots, there are some VERY obvious resemblances. Want more?
A few differences I see is that Raide now sports the markings on his face and arms, Shinbu's bangs are on the sides, where Raide has his on the front. Both share the same forming "hair peak" in front. And the sides... wow, now there's a similarity there. As for other defining features, the spikes on both characters flow backward, Raide does have a couple clumps that always stick out in front on either left or right. Over time I've made those clumps more noticeable.. One more thing about the hair is that Shinbu's hair has some brown highlights, Raide's is pure black. Raide has orange eyes, Shinbu on the bottom there has the same color though his ingame scenes show brown (black?). Shinbu's eyebrows are thicker and flare like Jin from Tekken. Raide's skin is darker, so that it compliments the rest of his design. What about the sleeveless open shirts? Raide's is a bit longer that goes down past his waist. So, what can this mean? Quite frankly if Beatrush Plus actually takes off as an animated series or videogame franchise there is a slight chance I could face some kind of copyright lawsuit. I seriously didn't intend for Raide to look like this character, I wasn't even aware of this game until I watched Cinematech. I don't think I have to alter Raide's character much more, but I personally think that there won't be much of a problem because everything in the art world has so much similarities, though I'm still nervous. It's so funny that I worry about Raide being a DBZ clone and I run into this. One thing is certain, I don't think Raide will be using his sword anymore -_-.
